Soft robots for marine research: match and GEOMAR in Kiel are launching a new project to develop a system that will be used to simplify the collection of rock and sediment samples in the deep sea.

Marine robotics plays a major role in the exploration and economic development of the oceans. It is engaged in the development of autonomous, deep-sea robots to provide insights into this hard-to-reach habitat. In a collaboration between the Institute of Assembly Technology (match) at Leibniz Universität Hannover and the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR), match's already accumulated experience in the field of soft robotics and GEOMAR's long-standing expertise on the topic of marine robotics will be combined.
